Natuva Outlines Police Force Restructure

The Fiji Police Force will soon see changes in the way it conducts its operations.

This is after Minister for Defence, National Security and Immigration Timoci Natuva revealed in Parliament Government’s initiative to restructure the Police force.

“The last restructure was about 10 years ago and we are targeting more resources in areas that we think are very important like crime against women and children, violent crimes, cybercrimes and transactional crimes,” Mr Natuva said.

“At the divisional level, the divisional Police commanders are encouraged to form response units and taskforces which were never done before so as to effectively deal with crimes and help reduce backlog.

“There is also an initiative to change in the procedures, the attendance and completion of investigation within 24 hours; that is one of the new initiatives that came up during the change of the Commissioner of Police and we are trying to achieve that.”
