The Lalai Driu- captained Nawaka Black team defeated Tovolea 12-5 to lift the Redbrick Cup during the 10s rugby tournament at Prince Charles Park, Nadi last Saturday.

The tournament also marked the official launch of the Nadi Rugby Union 2016 club competition.

Nawaka started well when loose-head prop Osea Nokelevu scored their first try which was converted.

Tovolea fought back and managed to score a try through prop Dan Rokoua but the conversion failed.

In the second half Nawaka winger Visamaki Lagilagi sealed the victory with  a try.

Nawaka Black won the Redbrick Cup and $500 while Tovolea pocketed $200.

“It’s a good start to the competition and the boys played well,”Driu said.

In the Plate final, Navoci defeated last year’s champion, Saunivalu,

17-7 to win $150 while Saunivalu received $100.

NRU secretary Ili Navula said 24 teams participated.
