Athletics Fiji continues to lead the way with the launching of the new database today.

Prime Miniter Voreqe Bainimarama will be chief guest at the launching at Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva at 10am.

The database simply captures the registration of all athletes that come into the system from their early years in primary school zones and Chow Games all the way up to the secondary, tertiary and national level.

“It goes back as far as the longest standing national record and captures the results of athletes as far back as the first South Pacific Games in 1963 in Suva,” Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joe Rodan Junior said.

“The purpose is to have as much history on the sporting results and former athletes as possible.

“It serves as a centralised database whereby information such as bio data, every performance result and sporting performance history for registered athletes are all centralised in one area.

“It serves the purpose to track our athletes and with such information that covers a good level of an athlete’s history.

“It allows Athletics Fiji to focus on identifying and developing prominent talents from an early age.

“It allows for improved allocation of resources into high potential athletes who have proven and recognised results.

“It also allows for the keeping of history with a proper electronic archived database into the future ensuring our recollection of historical comparison data is available as an accurate measurement into future development that will allow us to determine whether we are really progressing or not.”
