Inter-Parliamentary Union Governing Council discusses suspension

A powerful international parliamentary group recently discussed a case pending in court over the suspension of SODELPA member of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, from Parliament.

It is understood that the Inter-Parliamentary Union Governing Council had discussed a submission from the SODELPA and made resolutions which cannot be reported because they would prejudice the case.

The council’s 198th session was held in Lusaka, Zambia, in March.

A Fijian delegation comprising Government and Opposition MPs attended but was not part of the meeting that deliberated on the Ratu Naiqama case.

Copies of the decision of the council have been circulated to Fiji.

But it’s been kept hush hush because of its sensitivity in relation to the pending court case.

The four-page decision is detailed.
