Suspect likely to be charged with murder, expected to appear in court today

A 33-year-old woman is dead after being allegedly stabbed by her de facto partner at an apartment in Suva on Sunday night.

Lavenia, who worked as a receptionist at the Suva apartment, was allegedly stabbed after a heated argument with her de facto partner while drinking alcohol in her apartment room.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said the woman was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

“We have the man in custody and he will be charged with murder while the investigation is still going on to find out more information related to this case,” he said.

The apartment has been sealed off by Police for further investigations.

Inspector Weicavu has asked the public to be responsible while drinking.

“Try to solve the issues amongst yourself and not to lead with physical abuse, which can take someone’s life as it is a serious crime.

“Matters like this will not be tolerated by Police,” Inspector Weicavu said.

The man is expected to appear in court today for murder charges.
