Maiden Voyage Brings Overnight Stay

The  capital city of Suva was abuzz with activities over the weekend following the arrival of the MS Explorer of the Seas, on its maiden voyage to Fiji.

The 16-year-old cruise ship carrying 3194 tourists from all over the world is captained by Kjetil Gjerstad.

The vessel has a total crew of 1210 who are from 65 different countries.

According to local shipping agent, Carpenters Shipping, the cruise liner stayed overnight at the Port of Suva.

The last vessel that stayed overnight at our port was a long time ago.

Her last port was Port Vila in Vanuatu and she is on her way to Hawaii.

According to Captain Gjerstad this was the vessel’s first trip to countries within the Pacific Ocean.

And good news is that, following this maiden voyage, they will continue to make Fiji a regular port.

The ship will make its second visit to Fiji in October.
