Kauvesi confirms star winger to miss Paris, London tournaments

Vodafone Fijian 7s star winger Savenaca Rawaca is not going to play in the Paris and London tournaments of the 2015/16 World Sevens Series. This was confirmed yesterday by Vodafone Fijian 7s manager Ropate Kauvesi.

Rawaca has been informed that he was not going to travel with the team due to medical grounds.

He had sustained a leg injury during the Hong Kong 7s tournament and has been under observation ever since.

However, Kauvesi said Rawaca is still in contention for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August.

“Rawaca should be resting well for the Olympics,” he said.

“We will be traveling with 11 players and will be joined with the players from France, and we are giving Save (Rawaca) time to rest.”

It was also confirmed that Rawaca did not join the Vodafone Fijian 7s team for their training camp at Pacific Harbour but was resting at his home.

Fiji leads the World Series with 147 points and closely followed by South Africa and New Zealand.

In an earlier interview Kauvesi mentioned the Vodafone Fijian 7s team were on track and looking forward to the Paris and London tournaments.

“Our main focus is to play well in France and anything that happens after that in London is a bonus.

“Winning is our ultimate aim and we need to be at our ultimate best.”

The Vodafone Fijians leave for France today for the Paris 7s, which will be from May 13-15.
