The Success And Success Of Tourism

Post Tropical Cyclone Winston, our tourism industry has once again proved its resilience.

And, it has proven again that tourism is the number one industry in Fiji.

In the first quarter of 2016, which is during the time when we were picking up the pieces following the devastation left behind by Tropical Cyclone Winston, we received a total of 158,069 visitors.

This is an increase of 10.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama revealed these figures yesterday while opening the Fijian Tourism Expo at Denarau.

Our March visitor arrivals alone totalled 55,977, up 9.7 per cent from the same period last year.

As Mr Bainiamarama pointed out,  far from being down in the wake of Cyclone Winston, our arrivals have actually gone up. And we are set for another bumper year for tourism, both in numbers and earnings.

This continuing increase in visitor arrival is a testimony of the faith visitors have in Fiji, knowing that while the country bounces back from major natural catastrophe, visitors will get the best possible service.

And the ability of Team Fiji to bounce back quickly by working together.

Fiji was open for business and our hospitality industry did not disappoint.

Credit needs to be given to Fiji Airways, Tourism Fiji and of course Government for ensuring that despite this major natural disaster coming together and ensuring that no visitor returns from Fiji disappointed.

A Fijian tourism success. Again.
