The Henry Spring captained- Nasinu Secondary School Under-15 side beat Natabua High School 20-16 in the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools U15 final at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

Dubbed as Nasinu Panthers they walked away with $1000 prize money while Natabua High pocketed $500.

What happened: Panthers scored their first try in the third minute through Spring who had joined them from Queen Victoria School. Four minutes later, they extended their lead through a Viliame Saokaca try. In the 13th minute Natabua managed to break the defence with a try to Ilisavani Koroitamana from a text book style off-load from Livai Sayabo to narrow the deficit 8- 4. It was Spring who again scored another try as they ran to a 12-4 lead before fullback Jolame Sauqaqa scored a try for Natabua which was converted by Koroitamana.

Half time: Nasinu 12 – 10 Natabua.

In the first eight minutes of second spell Joseva Vakarewa was able to score two tries with his deceptive running style. In the last quarter Nasinu suffered a setback when Spring injured his foot in a tackle two metres from the try line. With two minutes left Natabua scored a converted try to bring the scores to 20-16.

Big plays: Koroitamana read the game well as he dictated Natabua’s move

Star Turn: Spring played well and his bulky built was a dominant figure in the final.

Comments: Nasinu Secondary coach Mika Yasiyasi said, “We came to win and was prepared for it. The boys stuck to the game play. We thank NAZEC for their support.”

Natabua High captain Koroitamana said, “It was a good game but Nasinu played better than us. We reached the final last year but never lost hope and we can make it again next year.”
