A man charged with theft in 2013 has been issued a bench warrant by the Suva Magistrate’s Court.

Magistrate Priyantha Liyanghe yesterday issued the bench warrant for former acting chief executive officer Bio-Security Authority of Fiji Matai Matakitoga when he failed to appear in court.

Matakitoga was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption with three counts of theft in mid-October 2013, while being employed by the Bio Security Authority of Fiji.

Prosecution lawyer Rashmi Aslam informed the court that the sitting yesterday was to fix a hearing date for the Defence.

The case has been adjourned to July 6.
