Plans major face-lift totalling $5m in addition to current damage with reopening planned for June 1

Castaway Island Resort has announced plans for a major face-lift for the resort amounting to around $5 million.

This amount will include the $1.5 million worth of damage sustained by the resort as a result of Tropical Cyclone Winston in February.

General Manager, Steven Andrews, said this was part of their ongoing refurbishment plan

And they had coincided it with the works carried out post Cyclone Winston.

The resort, part of the larger Outrigger Enterprises Group, has remained closed since Cyclone Winston hit the country on February 20.

It is now scheduled to reopen on June 1 after completion of the entire repair and refurbishment works.

Mr Andrews said their refurbishment will include changing the furniture and general inventory inside 14 of the 65 rooms.

These would include all small moveable furniture like the bed, fridge cabinet, and mattresses.

He said this would be a major refurbishment and complete refurbishing of all 65 rooms would be done by the end of the year.

Mr Andrews said the cyclone had caused serious destruction to the 14 rooms they were now focussing on which was on the South side of the island.

He added work has begun since the cyclone as there was some serious destruction.

“That is where we got most of the wind from Cyclone Winston so we are currently closed to repair that and have the resort running,” he said.

Castaway Island Resort is participating at the Fijian Tourism Expo 2016 currently underway at the Denarau Convention Centre.

Mr Andrews believes this is a grand way to expose the product and services of the resort.
