A 50-year-old man has been charged with one count of murder and will be appearing in the Suva Magistrate’s Court today.

Bernard Hicks allegedly stabbed his de facto partner Lavenia Radinitavea, 33, at a Suva apartment on Sunday and Police laid charges after post-mortem reports were presented. Hicks is said to have been drinking in her apartment when they had a heated argument which resulted to him allegedly stabbing Ms Radinitavea.

Police could not present Hicks in Court yesterday because of his medical condition and had to seek for a deferment from the magistrate.

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said: “We have been granted permission to produce him in court tomorrow as the accused was feeling sick and was taken to the hospital for a medical check-up.

“That it is for the sake of justice that we seek for extension to produce him in court tomorrow. He has to be medically fit to answer the charge laid against him,” said Inspector Weicavu

“It is for him that we request for the extension.”
