New Stamps Combine Two Cultures

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Ping said yesterday that the new Fijian stamps launched was a symbol of the deep friendship between China and Fiji.

“It symbolises the deep friendship between our people,” Mr Zhang  said.

The launching ceremony of 2016 Year of the Monkey stamps was held at China Cultural Centre in Suva yesterday.

The ceremony was jointly launched by the Embassy of People’s Republic of China, the China Cultural Centre in Fiji and Post Fiji Limited.

The four stamps were designed by a famous Chinese artist, Xu Hongfei.

Mr Zhang said the design of the stamps integrated the cultural elements of both China and Fiji.

“It embodies both Chinese art styles and distinctive Fiji characteristics which demonstrates the ever increasing cultural connection and the people to people exchanges between the two countries. It symbolizes the deep friendship between our people,” Mr Zhang  said.

“It is my sincere hope that our cultural exchanges will continue to prosper, I wish to see more lunar New Year stamps of different zodiac animals to be issued in Fiji in the future.”

Chairman of Post Fiji Limited Lawrence Tikaram said the launch of these stamps signifies the friendship and the bond between the countries

He congratulated Mr Zhang  and his government for the foresight and the knowledge on bringing this to the forefront and the team from Post Fiji for the hard work done to make it a reality.

“This event is historic as it shows the contribution of two great nations. I’m sure people will take advantage and make full use of these stamps. It is a significant moment and I’m sure this friendship will grow and prosper in years to come,” Mr Tikaram said.
