New Caledonia women cruised to the semifinals of the 2016 Handy Finance Oceania Volleyball Championships by winning all three sets against Solomon Island B at the Vodafone Arena last night.

Solomon Islands simply had no answer losing 25-3, 25-7 and 25-8.

New Caledonia coach Katia Waya was very happy.

“I am glad it was a fast-paced game and I am really happy with how the girls played,” Waya said.

“Coming into this competition has not been easy on us we have faced a few teams who have been tough but to reach this level is something we can all be proud of.”

Waya said they had enjoyed the competition and looked at it as a way to develop the girls.

“Every team wants to be better and in order to do that we need competitions such as this,” she said.

“Playing against other teams on a professional platform rather than playing at home lifts the standard and pushes us to do better.

“So that is something we are hoping to get out of this tournament.”

The second round of quarterfinals continue today with the semifinals at the Vodafone Arena.
