A body was found near Mosquito Island outside Lami on Thursday night.

The body of the dead man has been identified as Samuela Ralawe, 32, a villager of Suvavou Village who was last seen leaving his home on Tuesday morning.

“He got a call and then told us he was going to enquire about something and that was the last time we saw him,” mother Akata Vilisi said.

The Police arrived on Thursday night to inform us of his death.”

Described as soft-spoken, the family did not realise that when he left, that would be the last time they saw him.

Family sources said the body of Mr Ralawe was found wearing his bag, canvas and clothes, and his bag still had his personal documents, and he had the same things he wore when he left the house on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said they would await post-mortem results to find the cause of death.

“It could be a straight forward drowning case, but we are waiting post-mortem to find out if there was any foul play,” Ms Naisoro said.

Samuela Ralawe was the eldest of seven siblings. Police investigations continue.   Edited by Rusiate Mataika
