Their sentiments echoed one clear message and that was no other government could have come up with the Help For Homes Initiative but the Bainimarama administration.

The message was clear from this farming and fishing community that lived in Tavarau and Raviravi, an area that lies between Ba and Lautoka.

They had gathered in numbers at the Raviravi Sangam School, between Ba and Lautoka, to apply and receive their electronic cards which would be used to purchase building materials.

The smiles and happiness on their faces said it all as they eagerly waited to sort out their papers to qualify for the assistance.

Jovilisi Vuki, 46, of Tavarau said he never dreamed that the Bainimarama Government would come down to the ordinary people and lend a helping hand like this.

He had just built an extension to his existing house and this was taken away by Cyclone Winston which also caused damage to his main home.

“I earn a living from fishing and canecutting and thought all hope was lost.

“But this gesture by Government is unbelievable – I never dreamed they would do this.”

Rakesh Chand, 45, of Raviravi said he had no doubt who he would be voting for, come the next elections.

“My roof got blown away and no other Government would have given such assistance,” Mr Chand said.

Bhan Parkash, 49, of Tavarau lost his whole house during the cyclone.

“I have been staying in a tent, given by the Government with my wife and two sons.

“I never dreamed this would come from Government let alone anyone providing help.

“Prime Minister Mr Bainimarama and his Government are doing an excellent job and I know where I will tick in the next election.”
