Athletics Fiji continues to set the pace for sporting organisations in Fiji.

So much has been achieved in the last three years that we should only admire the hard work, professionalism and teamwork by all those involved.

Three years ago Athletics Fiji was on the verge of being de-registered by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) because of the internal bickering within the organisation by former officials

The resurgence, led by AF president Joe Rodan Senior,  has resulted in a remarkable turnaround.

Not only the achievements won the admiration of the local sporting fraternity, Fiji National Sports Commission and Government, it also received recognition from the IAAF.

Last month, AF chief development officer Joe Rodan Junior was appointed by the IAAF as a member of the Strategic Communication Advisory Group.

Last month during the 2015 Fiji Sports Awards Athletics Fiji won the Prime Ministers Award for the sports organisation that had the best governance.

On Monday, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama launched the Athletics Fiji Database, the first for the Pacific as far as athletics is concerned.

“The database is only available in Tier One nations and the reason why we are doing this is that with this database we will be able to identify our future athletes and ensure that we invest our money in the right places so that our athletes can improve,” Rodan Senior said.

This is a remarkable achievement by an organisation considered minor but always relied upon to win the most medals for the country during the regional games.
