Fledgling Malolo won their second game in the 2016 Skipper Cup competition with a 20-11 win over Tavua at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka yesterday.

The Veniona Vuki-captained side defeated Macuata last week in Labasa.

What happened:

Livewire centre Meli Qainiuci scored two tries in the first half which was enough to seal the match for the newcomers.

Malolo did not waste any time with experienced players such as Venioni Vuku, Jiuta Lutumailagi, Salamisa Nagata, Qainiuci, Timoci Tavuto, and Temesia Roko.

In the third minute Lutumailagi kicked the first penalty.

In the 17th minute his counterpart Tevita Naroyasi kicked penalty and the second one three minutes later, 3-6.

In the 27th minute number eight Atunaisa Kulavere scored and was converted by Lutumailagi to extend their lead 10-6.

In a space of four minutes Qainiuci proved to be the best reader of the game scoring two tries.

Halftime: Malolo 20 – 6 Tavua.

Saiasi Koino came from the bench to score in the corner but was too little too late for Tavua.

Big play

Jiuta Lutumailagi read the game well.

Star turn

Qainiuci played a man of the match performance scoring two tries in the victory.

Comments:

Tavua coach Akariva Tabutaci: “Disappointed with this loss as the team failed to click. They did not stick to the game plan.”

Malolo coach Mosese Volavola said: “I thank the team for holding on to win.”
