Suva defeated Northland 26 -14 in the second round of the 2016 Skipper Cup competition at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

What happened: Suva scored first from a penalty to Mosese Tikoduadua in the sixth minute.

Two more penalties in the 11th and 15th minutes extended Suva’s lead, 9-0.

Poor defence proved costly for Northland which resulted in Aca Simolo scoring in the 29th minute which was converted by Mosese Tikoduadua, 16-0. Northland hit back minutes later through Sireli Ledua scoring which was converted by Mesake Tuinamena, 16-7.

In the second half Northland Ledua scored in the 53rd minute which was converted by Tuinamena, 16-14.  But Suva kicked a penalty and scored a try to seal the win.

Suva coach Akuila Nasi: “We will try to improve our play in our next game.”

Northland coach Timoci Tuinaviti: “I thought we held our own, but not enough to win the game.”
