Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself, says Taniela Seninawanawa.

Partially deaf, Seninawanawa played for the  Fijian White team during the Handy Finance Oceania Volleyball Championship last week.

To be part of the national team was a dream come true but to be part of winning team was pretty special.

The Fijian White defeated New Caledonia 3-2 in the final and the Fijian Blues also defeated New Caledonia 3-2 in the women’s final.

Seininawana has paved the way for those with disabilities that they can do whatever they want if they only believe they can.

“I don’t believe in critics, I believe in myself, I listen to my coach who also believes in me,” he said.

The Saqani, Cakaudrove native was born and bred in Nadi and started playing volleyball at 13 years old.

Enjoying the sport at a young age, he joined the Nadi-based Neighbours Club.

He played during the Crest Easter Championship in April where he was selected to be part of the national squad.

He said being part of the Tevita Lewetuitove-coached team was an honour and thanked those who supported him along the way.

“Joining the side was a huge achievement for me and I just want to thank my coach,  my mother who always supported me,”he  said.

“I also want to thank the vanua of Nadi and my family for their never ending support.

He added as for the challenges he faced during preparations, the inability to hear well did not hold him back as his coach understood him and believed in his talent.

Representing Fiji for the first time, Seninawnawa said he would continue to try and make everyone proud.

“To all volleyball lovers out there if you really love the sport, just do it. Nothing is impossible,” he said.
