Navua edged Northland Tailevu 1-0 in the Vodafone Senior League at Fiji Football Association ground in Vatuwaqa, Suva yesterday.

What happened: Both teams braved the hot sun at Fiji FA ground as Navua tried tirelessly to break the Northland Tailevu defence. A few chances at goal from Northland Tailevu but nothing productive came out of it. Goalkeepers of both teams were made to work extra hard to keep strikers at bay ending the first half scoreless.

Halftime: Navua 0-0 Northland Tailevu

In the 73rd minute, Navua’s Netani Doli broke the deadlock. Northland Tailevu’s  Semi Rokoqica and Navua’s Jesoni Takala received red cards for unprofessional conduct in the last 15 minutes,

Big play: Northland Tailevu’s defence held up until the very last minute.

Star turn: Navua’s Doli was the hero for his team.

Comments: Navua coach Mohammed Shafil said: “The boys really worked hard because they knew we needed the win. We had so many missed opportunities and it was really difficult to get past Northland Tailevu’s defence but overall I am happy with the win.”
