Inter-island ferry MV Westerland will resume its operations in July. This was confirmed yesterday by its owners Blight Water Shipping Limited.

The ferry which services the Natovi-Savusavu and Lautoka-Malau routes sustained damages during Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Bligh Water Shipping chief executive officer William Vulivuli said that after Cyclone Winston, they had an underwater survey which required them to dock and get the hull repaired and re-painted.

He said MV Westerland has not gone up the slipway as they have been booked for June 15.

‘We were hoping for an earlier booking slot if one becomes available,” Mr Vulivuli said.

He pointed out that the cost of repairs is around $500,000 as it is an emergency requirement.
