Grandmother’s Dream Crushed

A 64-year-old grandmother’s dream to one day see her eldest granddaughter become an accountant has been shattered.
An emotional Suk Raji could not hold back her tears at their family home in Vusiya, Nausori yesterday after losing, Navneeta Nandika Prasad, 15.
Navneeta’s body was retrieved by Police divers from the Rewa River on Monday afternoon.
Mrs Raji said she last spoke to Navneeta before she left home last Saturday.
“On Saturday she came to me and asked me for $10 and said she was going to town and would be back by 3pm,” Mrs Raji said.
Her wait was vain.
“When I heard what happened I didn’t believe she would do anything like that. I brought her up since she was a baby and we’ve been together ever since.”
“I always had a dream of her getting her dream job of becoming an accountant and get married, but it won’t happen anymore,” she said.
Navneeta’s father, Virend Prasad described her only daughter as a smart and obedient girl.
“She was a good girl. She used to take part in religious activities and we miss her a lot,” Mr Prasad said.
He confirmed that Navneeta had last contacted her brother at 6.30pm on Sunday night. She was crying and said she was at the bridge.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of Navneeta that was conducted yesterday revealed that she died from drowning.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said investigations were continuing.
“Once the investigation is completed the file will be sent to the Resident Magistrate for inquest,” Ms Naisoro said.
