A prosecution witness under cross examination told the Suva High Court yesterday that the evidence of 27 tax return forms that had the same postal address in a Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority 2011 probe had disappeared from the archives.

The FRCA national manager internal assurance Teresi Solomoni also said a third party check on the 27 tax payers refund forms it was identified that only three were genuine tax payers.

Mr Solomoni was testifying against defendant FRCA employee 32-year-old Mukeshwar Singh who has denied charges for money laundering.

Singh is alleged with another person from May 1, 2005 to November 30, 2009 engaged directly or indirectly in transactions involving $117,011 belonging to FRCA.

Singh’s lawyer Jiten Reddy was cross examining Mr Solomoni before Justice Achala Wengapulli.

Mr Solomoni also told the court that during FRCA internal investigation in 2011 they discovered 27 tax payers using the same postal address which was P.O. Box 1671.

After FRCA did a third party check for the 27 tax payers refund form they identified only three real tax payers and it was also stated by Mr Solomoni that all the 27 tax return forms had gone missing from their archives which has records the past 10 years.

After investigations FRCA discovered that not all the 27 tax return forms consisted of signatures.

Mr Reddy asked Mr Solomoni if he had evidence that the box number belonged to Singh and the witness said he didn’t have evidence to prove that.

The court has been adjourned for today.
