34-year-old man cops 15 years jail term for rape

A 34-year-old man was labelled a ‘sexual savage’ as he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for raping his daughter by the Labasa High Court judge Justice Paul Madigan.

The man was found guilty of one count of indecent assault, one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and one count of representative rape.

The incident first took place in 2006 when he indecently assaulted his daughter when she was then six years old while the second and third incidents happened between 2010 and 2012.

He started raping his daughter in 2012 when she was 11-years-old and repeatedly between the years 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Justice Madigan said a father should be in the position of directing his child in her progress to maturity thus by constantly sexually assaulting her, her progress was irretrievably impeded.

Justice Madigan said the man would need to serve a minimum term of 12 years imprisonment before being eligible for parole.
