Fulton Hogan Hiways crew are upgrading the 200-metre Veinuqa Village road in Tailevu that previously was only open to foot traffic “a burden we have carried for more than 20 years,” according to village headman Eroni Soqotabua.

Veinuqa is located off of the Kings Road, 5.2 kilometres from Korovou Town towards Nausori, and is home to 189 villagers.

FHH Korovou depot supervisor Ulaiasi Bolalailai said the upgrade included grading and resheeting of the road, as well as laying new culverts, clearing of drainage.

“Before our work, the village had no access to transport, villagers had to walk the 200 metres daily for whatever their needs including fetching water from their well located at the end of the road,” said Mr Bolalailai

When the work is completed later in the week this will no longer be the case.

“The road works has brought us comfort and peace of mind. We have Fulton Hogan Hiways to thank for making a part of our lives easier,” Mr Soqosoqo-tabua said.

Fulton Hogan Hiways continues to work closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to provide road maintenance services for the Central, Eastern and Northern divisions.
