Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan believes the overseas-based players should have no problem in adapting to sevens rugby in a short space of time.

“We play sevens rugby and they understand the basics of the game and are great footballers,” Ryan answered after he was asked about the challenges of playing Leone Nakarawa and Josua Tuisova in sevens rugby.

However, the no-nonsense coach said the only concern in the Paris tournament was on the overseas-based players fitness.

“We are going to make changes in tactics and also in our starters. It’s about hanging on when fitness gets a little bit tough.”

Ryan indicated that in a few months time as we draw closer to the Rio Olympic Games, the fitness of these overseas-based players would not be a concern.

He said despite their 38-12 win over Scotland in the Paris 7s opener yesterday they were still working on perfecting their performance.

“We’ve got a great side with good players as some of the boys had joined us in London,” he said.

‘We’ve got an ace up our sleeve but we’ve got to perform as we will later play against some classy teams. We’ve got a plan and we are still working on it.”
