Boy, 14, Fights For His Life

Kolinio Turagakula, 14, is presently fighting for his life at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWM) in Suva.
He was only a few metres away from his house when he was hit by a bus last Saturday.

Kolinio is a student at Saint Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Navesi, Lami and is also a resident of Navesi.
When Fiji Sun visited him at CWM Hospital yesterday, his mother Joana Sipeli said her son was still unconscious.
“He was returning from Milo Kaji training and when he got off the bus he saw his brother and in his eagerness to cross the road the bus hit him,” Mrs Sipeli said.

Kolinio’s brother, John Cama, who was on the other side of the road, said he saw the bus hit the left side of his brother’s head.

“I saw him make a 360-degree spin and then he fell to the ground; I rushed in to see him but he was unconscious.”
Mrs Sipeli said that doctors had to insert tubes into his son’s stomach in order to feed him.

“Doctors stated after the examination that no visible fracture or bleeding can be seen but he may be suffering from internal bleeding which is why he still can’t regain consciousness.

“He is in a very critical stage and doctors said that if there is no change for the next three days then further examination will be done.”

Police spokesperson Inspector Josaia Weicavu said that the bus driver has been interviewed and released.
