What happened: Rewa won their first game in the Vodafone Premier League after beating Nadroga 2-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Nadroga had a good start with good defence and applying pressure on Rewa. Nadroga goalkeeper Parmesh Prasad made a good saves denying Rewa a chance to score.

In the 29th minute, a freekick from Epeli Saukuru connected well with Peniame Drova who headed in the first goal.

Nadroga were disorganised and there was no sense of direction or accuracy.

Halftime: Rewa 1-0 Nadroga

Rewa could not keep their discipline as Tevita Waranaivalu copped a red card for a dangerous tackle while substitute Bruce Hughes got a yellow card for a foul on Nadroga’s Joe Naicker.

In the 70th minute, Rewa was awarded a penalty but Iosefo Verevou’s shot was deflected by the goalkeeper which was scored by Lorima Dau.

Big play: Nadroga’s Gerad Voi, Ravneet Chand and Simione Damuni played a good game.

Star turn: Peniame Drova and Lorima Dau were the heroes for Rewa.

Comments: Rewa coach Marika Rodu said: “I am happy we won because we did not all train together. We looked a bit disorganised on the field and the players looked frustrated as well.

“Nadroga is a good young side and they really put up a fight against us.

“We really need to go back and train together and work on some of the areas that need to be tidied up.”

Nadroga coach Ramesh Sharma said: “We did not finish well and with the U23 reps in the Rewa team, it was difficult to beat them. But I’m happy my players got a chance to be exposed to his level of football.”
