Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau yesterday stressed that Fijian society needed to give and care more as he officially launched the 56th Nadi Bula Festival.

“It is time for giving and caring,” Mr Tagicakibau said.

“It is really the time for giving and caring and caring for others is the principle which is deeply rooted in our society.”

Mr Tagicakibau officially launched the festival with the theme: “Festival of Unity and Diversity” at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi yesterday.

“We salute our Government of the day that through our constitution, that we of different cultures are now bottled together by a common identity as Fijian,” he said.

Mr Tagicakibau said the endorsement in the 2013 Constitution exhibited an expression of the principle of liberal tolerance of differences.

“By affirming the validity of different cultures; we also affirm a common citizenship as member of different cultural groups,” he said.

He also applauded the Nadi Bula festival committee for their hard work and assisting the less fortunate in the community.

“The organising committee have also assisted the most unfortunate in today’s society, these are some of the good things that the festival gives back to the community,” he said.

Funds raised from the festival will be used to renovate the civic auditorium and the Nadi Hospital’s arrival and emergency unit.

Nadi Bula festival has been in existence in the last 55 year, and this year it will be the 56th year running and it is the only festival that has been running annually since inception.

Meanwhile, the committee also launched their website which is www.bulafestival.com.fj.
