The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Semi Koroilavesau yesterday commenced a week-long tour of the Lau Group to promote overseas seasonal employment opportunities to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Mr Koroilavesau said the devastation of TC Winston reinforced Government’s recruitment focus of overseas seasonal workers to isolated rural and maritime communities.

“Government’s policy intent for recruiting unemployed persons from isolated rural and maritime communities is to alleviate poverty.

“The trickle-down effect of overseas seasonal work will add value to rural development through economic activity and enhance agricultural innovation,” Mr Koroilavesau said.

He called on all able persons in the Lau Group to use this opportunity and attend the Trade Show organised by Unique Events Fiji to register their interest with the Ministry.

The 2016 Lau Islands Trade Show begins in Matuku then will proceed to Totoya today, tomorrow in Moala; Lakeba this Thursday; Cicia this Friday and will end in Vanuabalavu on Saturday.
