The smile on the face of  Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after the performance of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Brass Band yesterday was more than enough for the 45 member team.

The clapping that followed by those sitting from the Royal Box was a bonus.

Band leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Serevi Vananalagi, said their mission to the UK has been accomplished. But not without obstacles.

“We did not get our band instruments until two days after we arrived.”

The Queen herself was well aware of the situation.

During an afternoon tea hosted at the Windsor Castle last Friday, the Queen enquired with Lieutenant-Colonel Vananalagi whether they had received their musical instruments. She said the hold up was because of customs clearance.

Six team members from each participating country were invited for the late afternoon tea party.

Her Majesty also thanked the RFMF brass band for coming and being part of the show. Across the UK yesterday, the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations was aired live on ITV.

The RFMF band are expected to touch down at Nadi International Airport on Wednesday morning.
