Members of the public have been urged to take ownership of our environment as the Government rolled out its ‘Fight the Bite- Clean Up Fiji’ campaign in Nasinu yesterday.

President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote was the chief guest at the event.

He was accompanied by Minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usamate and his assistant, Minister Veena Bhatnagar.

While addressing civil servants at the event, President Konrote said the fight to eliminate mosquito borne diseases needed a united approach by Government, businesses, communities and individuals.

“While Dengue fever is the most deadly and rapidly spreading mosquito-borne disease in Fiji, the Chikungunya and Zika viruses have recently started to affect our people,” Mr Konrote said.

“It is therefore important for every Fijian to take ownership of the ‘Fight the Bite Campaign’.

“This is the only way that our nation can be successful.

“Every household from children, youth and adults must participate. Every village, every settlement, every street, every school and religious body must participate to make this campaign a success.”

By working together to address this common threat, he said we would then be able to achieve improved health and well- being.
