Valebasoga Tropikboards Limited will be installing a new sawmill line at its complex in a matter of a week.

Already on order is a whole static sawmill which the company has purchased from Christchurch, New Zealand worth NZ$150,000 (FJ$215,000).

Company spokesman, Serupepeli Vueta, said the installation would cost another $70,000 to $100,000.

The machine is expected to be in Suva by next week and might take two months to set up.

Mr Vueta said the static sawmill they are getting will boost up their sawn timber capacity.

The investment is based on the increasing demand for their products both locally and in terms of exports.

Once the new sawmill is installed, the company will employ another 30 people in addition to the 450 it currently employs. The company specialises in plywood and timber.

Export market

The company currently uses 60 per cent of its products for domestic supply while 40 per cent is exported.

Its current export markets include New Zealand, Australia, Vanuatu and Tahiti.

They are looking at getting into Dubai with their exports but it might take a while as works are still in the pipeline.
