Chief Backs Hayne

Jarryd Hayne is not alone in his efforts to make the Vodafone Fijian 7s final 12-member squad for the London Sevens this weekend.
This time his province of Macuata has stepped in to support his efforts not only for the London 7s but to the Olympic Games as well.
Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere said yesterday they are proud of Hayne’s success in sports.
“The province is very proud of his achievements,” Ratu Wiliame said.
“He has this God given talent and we are happy that he is utilising it well. The province of Macuata is looking forward to seeing him play in London this weekend and at the Rio Olympics in August.”
Hayne’s dad and former National Rugby League player Manoa Thompson hails from Cikobia, which is part of the province. He now joins Isake Katonibau as members of the Vodafone Fijian 7s team that hails from the province.
Ratu Wiliame pointed out that Hayne is a fine role model for budding rugby players in the North.
“Hayne has worked extra hard to develop his God given talent that has made him a sporting star today.
“And we are proud of the fact, that for the love of his country he has come forward indicating his desire to play for Fiji at the Olympic Games.”
