England speedster Dan Norton is desperate to return to the World Rugby Sevens Series this weekend in front of his home fans at Twickenham.

Norton, who missed last week’s Paris tournament, hopes to be back in the squad for the final leg of the Series before the Rio Olympics.

And he recalls from past experience just how special the event is.

“I remember when I played in it for the first time and just looking up and seeing thousands of people screaming, dancing and having an amazing time,” he told Planet Rugby.

“The atmosphere is pretty special and home support makes it all the more amazing as well. It is also the joy of being able to see family and friends as well in between the games.”

Norton’s return is expected to fire-up the England side as they face Series leader Fiji in their pool play. The Vodafone Fijian 7s side only need to top the pool to retain the Series title.

England enter the tournament in ninth place after a disappointing series, but Norton is determined to end the campaign on a positive note.

“It’s been an aim all year to get ourselves into the position to win a tournament,” he said.

“We won one last year and we wanted to try and replicate that this year but the main thing this season was to take the sevens programme forward and blood some young new players and we’ve done that. The players are in a better place and going well, there has been game time for everybody, not just the usual senior group. We’ve used a lot of players this year.”

He added: “Being in London and being our home tournament then yes we all want to play especially well in front of family and friends. We will give it our all.”
