Tavua District School has received a donation of FJ$10,000 to help repair damages sustained during Cyclone Winston in February.

The donation was handed over to the school from a charity group from Christchurch, New Zealand called Fiji Relief Charity.

Renee Ryder, an organiser from the charity group said: “Cyclone Winston has caused a lot of damages and has affected so many lives in Fiji and this was the right time to help the school society here in Tavua,” Ms Ryder said.

She said her organisation was happy to help.

“Education is one of the important aspects in any society and we are just trying to give that back to this community and the students,” she said. “We also received donations from our community back home and we received sporting equipment, clothes for men, women, children and babies, linen, and other school stationeries which I know would be of help to this community.”

School manager applauds aid

The management and staff of Tavua District School have expressed their heartfelt thanks to Fiji Relief Charity for the help.

School Manager Ratu Ovini Bokini Nauarabota said he was thankful for the group for the visit and help.

“Two weeks ago we got to know that this group was coming to Fiji to help this school and community members,” Mr Nauarabota said.

“I am thankful to these wonderful people as they have travelled and have brought help from their community like cash for the rebuilding of the school and other necessities like clothes, shoes, linen and school stationary which is very appropriate.”
