The Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou was praised by youths and youth club advisors in Vanua Levu for being the first Government minister to visit their communities.

While being presented the traditional welcome ceremony of i-qaloqalovi and the i-sevusevu from the respective villages of Waisa in Kubulau, Bua Province, Vuadomo and Nukubolu in Koroalau, Cakaudrove Province, he was informed that villagers and youths had been anticipating his arrival to their community.

Speaking in i-Taukei language, Vuadomo youth advisor, Reverend Sakiusa Koroilagilagi said, “Today is a day that we have looked forward to since being informed of your intent to visit us as you are the very first minister to visit our village.”

“To us, this shows how much you are committed to the duties you have been called,” Reverend Koroilagilagi said.

“We thank you for availing yourself to meet with us because we would never have gotten the opportunity otherwise to meet with you and bring up our issues.”

Nukubolu youth club president Timoci Keresi echoed the sentiments during the informal discussion saying the youth club could now be rest assured that all issues raised would be met with urgency and care.

“Our youth club has recently registered with the ministry and we are also very grateful to meet Mr Tuitubou as this is the first time for us to be graced with his presence,” Mr Keresi said.

Mr Tuitubou advised them to work harder to develop themselves.

“Work together because whether you like it or not, you will become leaders of the country which is why I emphasised the importance of hard work in order to become better leaders in the future and useful replacements of your elders,” he said.
