New Home For Worthy Recipient

I am so thankful that I no longer have to rely on others for shelter and I can finally enjoy the comforts of my own home.
These were the sentiments of Epeli Talemaihawai of Nabukaluka, Naitasiri, who will now enjoy a new home fully-funded by the Commissioner Central’s office under the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development.
Mr Talemaihawai, who was injured by a falling tree while logging 16 years ago, now relies on a wheelchair for mobility and movement and said his journey has had its share of difficulties.
“I stayed before with my relatives and I moved around from house to house,” Mr Talemaihawai said.
“Altogether, I have relied on six families in the past.”
Despite the hardships, Mr Talemaihawai has remained positive and expressed his gratitude to Government for the kind assistance.
“I want to thank the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management and the officials from the Commissioner Central’s Office and the Provincial Administrator Naitasiri, for the opportunity to be assisted,” Mr Talemaihawai said.
“Construction began real well and within the past four days, we have managed to complete much of the construction.”
“I am just glad that in the next few days my new home will be complete.”
A sum of $11,294.25 was provided by the Commissioner Central’s office for the construction of Mr Talemaihawai’s home under its Poverty Alleviation Programme.
