Naluwai, Naitasiri, native Virimi Vakatawa will become the first Fijian to captain the France national sevens rugby team.

Two years ago, he became the first Fijian to don the France 7s jumper but this weekend the 24-year-old will lead the Les Blues during the London 7s.

Vakatawa said he was honoured to lead the team.

“A massive honour for me to captain France this weekend,” Vakatawa posted on his Instagram account.

Vakatawa has had a stunning World Sevens Series so far and it continued at the Paris Sevens last weekend.

He was named  in the Dream Team as well as claiming the DHL Impact Player award.

Vakatawa was at the fore as France won the third/fourth place playoff against Argentina, scoring six tries during the tournament as well as making 28 carries and producing 10 offloads.

The flying Fijian has scored 58 tries in just 77 matches.

Speaking to CNN  before the Paris Sevens, he reportedly turned down  offers from Toulon, Stade Francais and former club Racing Metro after the Six Nations so that he could stay centrally contracted to France and play on the 7s circuit.

He showed magnificent performance in Paris last week and was always seen scoring incredible tries or setting them up for his teammates with brilliant stepping and offloading.
