About 1796 offences were committed at secondary and primary schools last years.

This was revealed by the Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy, at the 117th Fiji Principals Association Conference at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami, yesterday.

Mr Reddy said according to the 2015 National Substance Abuse and Advisory Council Report, a total of 400 schools submitted their evaluation forms.

“These offences include violence cases, drugs, sex related offences, teenage pregnancy,” he said.

“Blaming will not solve anything. Therefore, we must act and intervene with the mentality to assist the child change for good and not discourage them to the extent that they leave school.”
