A businessman in Nasuva, Bua, is in shock after he lost half a million dollars worth of investment in a fire on Friday night.

Dewendr Singh the director of Raviravi Saw Milling and Timber Merchant Company Limited said he suspects foul play.

“I suspect that someone deliberately set fire to the mill,” Mr Singh said.

“I saw the fire around 11.30pm.

“My employees who live around the mill quickly used the water pump machine and buckets to put out the fire.

“More than half portion of the mill including the showroom has been destroyed.”

He said the National Fire Authority officers from Labasa arrived at the scene and they all managed to save whatever they could.

“I am really in shock and have informed the Police officers to carry out an investigation.”

Meanwhile, National Fire Authority chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai confirmed that his officers from Labasa were carrying out their investigation.

“We cannot confirm whether it is a case of arson because we are still carrying out our investigation,” Mr Moceitai said.

When Fiji Sun contacted Northern Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shiri Bhawan Singh confirmed of the case being reported.

“Our officers are at the scene and I cannot confirm whether it is a case of arson or not as investigation continues,” SSP Singh.
