Rewa Rice Limited will be installing a new mill in August this year at Muanidevo in Dreketi.

The new mill purchased by the company from China is worth of $200,000.

Rewa Rice Limited mill manager Ashrit Pratap said it would be installed beside the existing mill.

“If all goes by plan, we should start operating the new mill by October this year,” Mr Pratap said.

The current mill has been operating since 1978.

He said: “Since there has been many improvement such as ideal lands developed for rice farming, new farm machines, new improved variety of rice being planted and growing demand of rice, we saw the need to have a new mill.

“The new mill will supplement intake of rice paddy and help increase more rice production.”

When questioned whether the installation of new mill would replace the need of more workers, Mr Pratap replied no.

“With the installation of new mill and also other plans such as rice flour mill and animal feed mill and small supermarket in Dreketi in pipeline, we would employ more people,” he said.

“From early this year, a technical team from China has been working on farm projects with us (Ministry of Agriculture and Rewa Rice Limited) and the farmers to test the new improved variety and improved farming techniques.

Mr Pratap said: “They have a two year contract and they are here teaching and training us and the farmers on farm management, machines and milling areas.

“The efforts from government with plans to reduce imports will surely bring about development in rice industry.”
