Nine beauties will be vying for the 2016 Vodafone Coral Coast Carnival crown in Sigatoka that opens this Saturday.

The winner will earn a ticket to represent the township at the 2nd Telecom Miss Fiji Pageant scheduled for later this year.

The carnival begins on May 28 until June 4, which will coincide with the 80th anniversary of the birth of Sigatoka Town which falls on June 1.

Event co-ordinator Loraine Vereivalu said the charity raised from the event would be handed over to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to assists Fijians who have been affected during Cyclone Winston which hit on February 20.

“We have nine contestants in total with respective sponsors from the respective businesshouses,” Ms Vereivalu said.

Ms Vereivalu also said the committee was overwhelmed with the support from businesshouses as most of the contestants were sponsored by the businesses in Sigatoka Town.

“The girls are very excited for the event. They are here to chip in for the carnival and the charity raised will go into the Prime Minister’s Cyclone Appeal,” she said.

“We would like to invite the people of Nadroga/Navosa to support whoever is going to be crowned as Miss Sigatoka as we will be taking her to the Miss Fiji Pageant at the end of the year.”

She said this year also marks the carnival being staged at the Sigatoka Town Council ground.

Last year Miss Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Adele Lingam was crowned Miss 2015 Vodafone Coral Coast Carnival queen.

Meanwhile, the contestants for the first time were introduced to the public during the Skipper Cup provincial rugby competition at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka last Saturday.
