The Vodafone Fijian 7s team yesterday won the World Sevens Series for the second year in a row.

And Coach Ben Ryan hailed the shutout  of Australia in the deciding Pool B encounter at the London Sevens as unbelievable, fantastic and brilliant.

After losing their opening game against hosts England 31-10, the Vodafone Fijians stormed back to thrash Wales 42-5 and outclass Australia 26-0.

Vodafone Fijian 7s captain Osea Kolinisau, who scored the last try against Australia to seal Fiji’s status as champions, said the boys really came through when it mattered  the most.

“I am relieved after what happened in the first game,” Kolinisau said.

“I am happy along with the rest of the boys as we planned that we would attack the series not defend it and that’s what we did.

“We have attacked the title all season we have been in the top spot and maintained our position in London.

“Before our game against Australia I had a chat with Ben because I was feeling anxious. But the boys delivered when it mattered the most and that shows the character of the team.

“I think when it matters most this season the boys kept stepping up and it’s all due to teamwork.”

Coach Ryan said the boys really gave it their all in their last pool game.

“It feels brilliant, we had a rollercoaster of a day, came out badly and then we rebounded fantastically,” Ryan said.

“You can never really be sure but in that changing room it was in their eyes, they weren’t going to let Australia score and they played such good rugby.

“It is outstanding, we have had an up and down day in 7s which can be like that but that performance against Australia was unbelievable.

“It was like last year against South Africa, our defence was just fantastic and I said to the boys those weren’t just tackles, they were tackles from the heart and they played a brilliant 14 minutes of rugby.”
