Vodafone Fijian 7s workhorse Jasa Veremalua has been crowned the DHL Impact Player of the 2015-2016 World Sevens Series in London yesterday.
And the stunning stats revealed by World Rugby showed the tremendous work rate put in by the players and the coaching staff to make us World Sevens Series for the second year in a row and top seed for the Rio Olympics in August.
“This isn’t just a random side, this is the best side in the world in the last two years,” Ryan said.
“A Fijian side that plays a very high-tempo, high-risk game that requires enormous amounts of skill and enormous amounts of fitness.”
With 115 tackles, 36 breaks, 63 offloads and 123 carries, Veremalua has been the game-breaker for the Fijian team and a sensation to watch throughout the series..
Team captain Osea Kolinisau came in second with a total of 123 tackles, 26 breaks, 40 offloads and 142 carries.
Veremalua and Kolinisau have topped the list of being the most impactful player throughout the tournament.
They were joined by South Africa’s Seabelo Senatla, USA’s Perry Baker, Samoa’s Faalemiga Selesele, Kenya’s Colins Injera and Scotland’s James Johnston.
Kolinisau and Veremalau were the three Pacific players included in the overall World Sevens Series Dream Team.
The others are Samoa skipper Faalemiga Selesele, South African duo Kwagga Smith and Seabelo Senatla, Perry Baker from the USA and Fiji-born French flyer Virimi Vakatawa.
Kitione Taliga climbed his way up to the top of the DHL Impact Player of the London 7s coming in third with 11 tackles, six breaks, nine offloads and 21 carries behind Scotland’s Damien Hoyland and New Zealand Reiko Ioane who shared the top spot.
This season Fiji has scored the most number of points with a total of 1704 points, the most number of tries of 265 and the most conversion with 188.
Australia’s Henry Hutchison scooped up the World Sevens Series Rookie of the Year with his outstanding performance scoring a number of tries for the Aussies and dazzling the crowd.
Seabelo Senatla was awarded the top try-scorer of the series with a total of 66 tries.
