Aust Medical Team Provide Disaster Response Training

A team of medical consultants from the Australian National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre (NCCTRC) are in Fiji this week to facilitate disaster response training for local health officials.
The Australian funded NCCTRC was invited by the Ministry of Health to deliver training to enhance local health officials’ approach to disaster medical management in the region. This training follows on from an earlier collaboration between the Ministry of Health and NCCTRC when a team comprising of 21 Australian Medical Assistance Teams (AUSMAT) personnel were deployed to Fiji to provide support immediately after Tropical Cyclone Winston.
NCCTRC’s acting director Disaster, Preparedness and Response, Ms Abigail Trewin, who led the AUSMAT deployment post Tropical Cyclone Winston said: “We are really pleased to be working with the Ministry of Health to support Fiji in building its disaster resilience.”
