Consumers can now expect two new biscuit varieties in the market from Punjas.

Yesterday the company launched the “Nice Coconut” and “Milk Coffee” range of biscuits and have classed it as equal to some of the leading brands around the world.

The Nice brand is coconut flavoured and lightly covered with sugar crystals and is preferred to be served as an accompaniment to hot drinks such as tea.

The name is derived from the city of Nice in the south of France and was originally named ‘faite a Nice’ or made in Nice and was listed in an army and navy co-operative society price list in England in 1895.

Milk Coffee has a hint of coffee and was developed in the 17th century in Yorkshire, England for the upper classes as a light snack between full course meals and is popular in Malta and Cyprus.

Punjas Group Marketing manager, Gopal Jadhav, said the growing range of biscuits being manufactured at their new state-of-the-art $25 million factory at Navutu.

Mr Jadhav said Punjas range of biscuits needed to be recognised amongst the leading brands around the world and that is standard the company has set.

“We do a lot of product research plus testing to perfect our biscuit recipes,” he said.

“We listen to our customers when they tell us what they want in terms of taste, flavour and variety of product they prefer.

“The new sugar sprinkled Nice Coconut and creamy Milk Coffee biscuits, we believe, compliments the existing Scotch Finger and Milk Arrowroot varieties.”

Punjas recent launched new flavoured crackers, Onion & Chives and Poppy & Sesame and the company said both products had received good response from the public.

General manager Sales and Marketing AVS Subrahmanyam said the variants brought in to the different range of biscuits was from feedbacks such as a product that did not break up or for a certain product to be creamier.

“So really the recipe is based on what the consumer wants and not a certain brand that is set as a benchmark,” he said.

“We build from scratch to what the customer wants and expects.”
