Basketball Fiji in partnership with the Nasinu Town Council launched new dual netball and basketball backboards and rims at the Nasinu Multi-Purpose courts in Valelevu.

Acting Australian High Commissioner Karinda D’Aloisio officially launched the new backboards and rims.

“First, congratulations to Basketball Fiji and the International Basketball Federation’s Oceania Office and Hoops for Health programme, for your commitment and collaboration in making today possible,” D’Aloisio said.

“I also understand that the reason Nasinu was selected as a venue for this new equipment was due to the growing popularity of basketball in the area this is fantastic to see.

“A thriving, active sporting community like you have here in Nasinu is something to be proud of and I know you must all be excited to try out these new backboards and rims and to put these facilities to good use.”

“In conjunction with Basketball Fiji’s strategic goals and the Hoops for Health programme, the backboard and rims donation is part of BF’s long term goals in making the sport more accessible to those who wish to play. This is to allow athletes to have a physically active lifestyle on a regular basis.”

Nasinu Town Council chief executive officer Akhtar Ali believes the new backboards and rims would help boost the sport in the country.

“Sport is part of our programme and we will continue to promote sports in Nasinu and produce champion athletes,” he said.
