The youths of Lepanoni are demanding for more youth empowerment training to help keep them away from criminal activities.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the iTaukei Affairs Board facilitated a three-day leadership training with sessions on sexual reproductive health for the young people of Lepanoni Settlement in Deuba last week.

“We are demanding that the ministry brings more training like this to us in the future,” Lepanoni youth leader Sera Mataitoga said.

“Youths of Lepanoni have been involved in illicit activities and this training has really awoken them.

“The recent crime that took place in Lepanoni a few months ago has really tarnished the name of our society and we have vowed to help re-create a new Lepanoni brand  one that is brighter and better and crime-free.”

Principal youth officer central division Iowane Soko said the training at Lepanoni was targeted at helping its young people realise that, “resorting to crime will not help them in life.

“The training was a targeted approach at creating a self-belief amongst youths in Lepanoni and to help them realise that there are better solutions and alternatives in life apart from getting involved in crime,” Mr Soko said.

The training, which ended last Friday, was closed by the Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Iliesa Delana.
